Job Description Child Care Development Center (CCDC)


Reports To: Co-Interim Director


Employment Status: Full-Time/Part-Time, Non-Exempt


Position Summary


The Assistant Teacher is responsible for creating a safe, nurturing, Christ-centered, and developmentally appropriate classroom environment where children can grow academically, socially, emotionally, physically, and spiritually. The Assistant Teacher works with the Lead Teacher to implement engaging learning experiences, build strong relationships with families, and maintains compliance with all licensing and accreditation standards. The Assistant Teacher serves as a positive role model, demonstrating professionalism, teamwork, integrity, and a genuine love for children.


Responsibilities

• Foster a classroom environment that promotes learning through exploration, creativity, and play.

• Maintain a classroom that is safe, clean, organized, and welcoming.

• Provide attentive supervision of children at all times.

• Maintain positive classroom management using appropriate guidance techniques.

• Ensure the health, safety, and well-being of every child.

• Follow all emergency procedures, health protocols, and child protection policies.

• Build trusting, respectful relationships with families.

• Communicate regularly regarding children's progress, behavior, and developmental milestones.

• Respond professionally to family questions and concerns.

• Maintain compliance with all state licensing regulations and CCDC policies.

• Participate in required professional development.

• Attend staff meetings, training sessions, and special events.

• Assist with center-wide activities and family events.

• Support the mission and values of First Baptist Church and CCDC.


Qualifications

• Minimum of one year of experience teaching young children in a licensed childcare or preschool setting preferred.

• Current CPR and First Aid certification (or ability to obtain upon hire).

• Ability to pass all required background checks and Virginia licensing requirements.
